the MIRROR – make pollution great again

The installation the MIRROR was created on a green area on top of a highway in Jena-Lobeda during the architecture competition »72 Hours Urban Action«. The task »make pollution great again« was realised in an atmospheric and playful way. The MIRROR reacts to the existing situation on site and transforms disturbing highway noise and the constant wind into an acoustic and visual wind chime. Above the seating and the green area, a delicate grid structure was stretched which created a calm shelter without obstructing the view. Light and colourful elements move gently in the wind and invite residents to listen and linger. The project started with the question: Who is watching whom? The location in Jena Lobeda is situated on a green area between housing blocks and the highway with people passing by and making assumptions on life in the housing blocks. The project aims to »mirror« this situation and create a beautiful shelter for the residents to overlook the endless flow of traffic.
