Reading Landscapes / Colour Landscapes
The design for the conversion of the existing district library »Bücherhalle Altona« creates an inviting atmosphere for strolling and lingering in comfort.
The form language and colour scheme in shades of blue and green is inspired by rivers, such as the Elbe running through the Altona district. Curved floorings in contrasting colours divide the approx. 800 sqm space into different thematic areas. A visual guidance system consisting of vertical light-coloured wooden slats with partly large-format signage enables visitors to find their way around.
In all areas, coloured »cut-out arch forms« integrated into shelves provide seating for comfortable stays. Flexible half-height shelving systems enable quick conversion for events in several areas.
Two sections were implemented in 2022, Completion of the last section of the library is planned for spring/summer 2023.
