KOMM’ RUM – building workshops

KOMM’ RUM invites you to come together and share stories, memories and ideas in Johannstadt.

Due to the upcoming move of the socio-cultural centre “jokt” in Dresden Johannstadt in 2024, the format “Plattenwechsel – Wir in Aktion” was created. In this format Johannstadt residents are participating in the relocation process on various levels. As one of the kick-off projects the participatory format “KOMM’ RUM” was implemented. During the summer of 2020 the “Postcard Workshop” invited people to design their own postcards with memories and stories of Johannstadt. Furthermore three mobile storytelling stations were developed and realised together with residents as part of the multi-day building and sewing workshop. While drawing, sawing, screwing, painting, building stools, reusing old parasols, printing on fabrics and sewing together the “wheel of fortune turntable”, the inflatable airy “cushions” and the “postcard stand” were created.

In the postcard workshop, residents create their own Johannstadt postcard based on their individual photo or special object. In the next step, the postcards will be reproduced and thus become part of the postcard stand. During the KOMM‘ RUM building and sewing workshop, which will last several days, a wide variety of skills can be used and new (craft) skills can be learned. Together the participants will saw, construct, paint, build stools and built the mobile stations out of wood and concrete foundations. Fabrics will be printed and sewn into new parasol covers and huge cushion islands. Old materials and objects, e.g. from ZÜNDSTOFFE Materialvermittlung Dresden are repurposed and reassembled.
