Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain

»One dreams not only from one’s own soul […] one dreams anonymously and together, even if in one’s own way.«

To mark the 100th anniversary of the novel »The Magic Mountain«, the exhibition »Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain – Fever Dream and High Altitude Rush« is being realised. The entire novel can be read as one long dream, from which the novel’s main character Hans Castorp only awakens in the final chapter. The exhibition aims to transform this realisation of Hans Castorp into a contemporary, atmospheric experience. In terms of design, this can be explored in seven immersive rooms, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the novel and various dream worlds. The central themes of life, illness and death as well as love and politics, which are as relevant today as they were 100 years ago, can be experienced in the exhibition. At the end of the exhibition in the »outro«, visitors have the opportunity to work together to develop a dream for the future inspired by the dreams of the novel.
